Is the Honey app safe to download?

The plugins are quick to add, easy to sign up for, and there are numerous options — Honey, InvisibleHand, PriceScout, Wikibuy, and CouponFollow, to name a few. Once installed, these coupon plugins need to monitor every site you visit, just in case they have a coupon handy. That opens up your data — a stack of it — to these companies. That said, the privacy policies are varied and are not reviewed by the vast majority of these companies.

The Play Store has plenty of apps devoted to you getting a small cashback on purchases or finding coupons to save money. Unfortunately, some of these are closer to the wild west than actual money-saving assets. Warning bells start to go off with this line:. Ibotta grants itself a ridiculously open privacy policy, where it can do just about anything it wants:.

That covers anything and everything and is far worse than any of the plugins. These lines are big red flags few people would agree to if they understood it upfront.

Coupon and cashback sites make a commission from your purchases with them, which means selling your data is hardly necessary to stay afloat. Ruan pointed out that the process is the only way of getting a coupon to you simultaneously. I got tired of waiting for the app to complete its cycling time only to provide nothing of real value, so I deleted it.

I had no idea how legit this was. It does help find coupon codes sometimes. I just redeemed my points for a 40 dollar Amazon gift card. I just got free money for doing nothing! I just got the email. It was a pleasant surprise, to be honest.

It saves me money and makes me money! Thanks for your positive comments! This app has saved me nothing after months of tries. But, it has caused lockouts and lost time, and has caused lost deals due to wasting time trying to get out of Honey and back to the offer without Honey.

Honey is a bad joke. Thanks for commenting. This extension is pretty useless. How else can they offer you free money? I already get too much junk! They may send you emails if you sign up with an email, but you can unsubscribe from their email list if they do! When I search the store, I find a cheaper price than the amazon search. Walmart sells the items off the shelf cheaper than Amazon.

I personally have had a little bit. Nothing absolutely huge, but every once in a while, it will find me a dollar or a few cents off at Amazon or the like! Total joke! Never works. It told me there was several site wide coupons that worked 15 minutes ago but if i checkout and used them, Honey tells me it found nothing.

I only knew because of Youtube. If it was so revolutionary I would have heard of when it first came out. Plus it tracks you pretty bad. Very disappointing!

Only saving a dollar to a few cents at a time. But what if the store never confirms, then what? Overall Rating.

Summary If you shop online frequently and want an easy way to save some money without having to hunt for coupon codes yourself, you should try Honey out. Ease of use 4. Similar to the Honey App extension for your computer, the Honey smartphone app automatically applies coupon codes… it just does it a little differently. Perhaps the primary difference between the app and browser extension is the shipping.

The Honey app for your smartphone will ask for your shipping info first so that it can search for free shipping codes… in addition to every other discount for every item in your cart. The app also allows you to put items from multiple vendors into one unified card, eliminating the need to have to toggle back and forth between different apps or enter endless usernames and passwords.

The multi-store shopping cart certainly has its perks, but also makes the coupon code gathering process run a bit differently in the app. Say you have four items from four different stores in your cart, the app will test and apply every code for each individual store.

The extension then applies the best code to the cart total as most coupons are storewide. Honey only collects information they believe can help you save time and money when shopping online. Should you choose to register as a member… you will be asked to provide your name, email, and other general profile information.

That or else link your Facebook, Paypal or Google accounts. As with most web services, Honey collects technical information about your device and how you use Honey to make sure that its products are working right. This helps you save more time and money, as well as detect and prevent fraud. It never collects credit card numbers, billing addresses, or any other billing information either. From a technical standpoint, Honey puts top notch security measures in place… such as limiting access, using encryption, testing for vulnerabilities, advanced malware detection, employing pseudonymization and anonymization techniques, and more.

Honey only retains information about you as long as you keep using the Honey Services. It merely serves as a vessel to pass through to the retailer site, where you will proceed to make payment as you normally would with them. There are other browser extensions and apps that try and keep up with Honey… but most fall slightly short in one way or the other.

However, for the sake of fairness, you may want to check out some of these apps and see for yourself. As I mentioned at the start of the article, I was leery to install another browser extension… but I did.

That is priceless to me as a busy mom to four young kids… who shutters at the thought of going to an actual store with all of them. Whose got time for that? Now, for those of you who enjoy shopping from sites other than Amazon… I did visit a few retailers to get a sense of how Honey worked outside of my comfort zone.

I selected the one that best applied to what I was shopping for and Honey automatically generated a code and provided a link to the retailer page. As I touched upon earlier in the article, the app allows you to add items from multiple retailers into a single cart.
